Frequently Asked Questions

About Quartet

What is Quartet?

Quartet is a healthcare technology company bridging the gap between physical and mental health. We partner with your doctor to connect you to mental healthcare based on your needs, insurance, and location — and we don't stop until we find you the right fit.

How does Quartet work?

Once your doctor submits a referral through Quartet, we work to match you to a mental health provider or online therapy. Our matching process is based on the information you provide, including insurance information. For in-person talk therapy, a provider will reach out directly to set up an appointment. For online therapy, you will sign up through a personalized link that a Quartet representative will send to you. Quartet or your matched provider will be in touch within 1 to 2 business days from your initial referral.

Where is Quartet located?

Quartet's main office is located in New York City, however, Quartet operates in multiple markets across the United States.

How do I change providers once I’ve been matched?

At Quartet, we understand the importance of a good relationship between a patient and provider. While Quartet works hard to connect you with a provider that best fits your needs, you always have the ability to be re-matched. If you would like to change providers, please contact us directly.

Please note that Quartet uses the address provided in your referral to determine location preference. We do our best to re-match you in the same area, but switching providers may mean traveling farther for care.

Is Quartet really free?

Yes. Quartet’s care matching and related services come at no extra cost to you. As with any insurance-covered services, you will be responsible for expected copayments or cost-sharing fees associated with appointments, based on your insurance coverage. Quartet attempts to match you with a mental health provider who is participating in-network with your insurance; however, Quartet cannot guarantee that you will not be charged any fees in addition to a copayment or cost-share.  Any questions about these costs should be directed to your insurance company or mental health provider.

Is everyone eligible to use Quartet’s services?

No. Quartet services are not available to patients under the age of 18 or patients in need of urgent scheduling or immediate care. If you are experiencing a crisis, do not use this site. Please call 911 or go to your local emergency room.

Can I sign up for Quartet without a referral?

Quartet services are available only to patients referred by their doctor. If you are interested in our services and would like to find out if your doctor is partnered with Quartet, please contact us.

About our Services

What types of services does Quartet offer?

We connect patients of our provider partners with the following types of services: in-person and online talk therapy with licensed therapists and psychologists; medication evaluation and management with board-certified psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants; and/or an online cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) program.

What is talk therapy?

The most common and traditional form of treatment for mental health conditions, talk therapy, involves weekly sessions (although sometimes less frequent) with a licensed mental health professional.

Therapy can include various interventions such as skill-building to manage stress or navigate challenges, mindfulness or meditation techniques to help manage symptoms and mood, exploration of root causes of particular emotional responses, and an opportunity to develop insight. Talk therapy can be used alone or in conjunction with medication or online programs.

What is Online Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Online CBT can be done independently on a computer, cell phone, or tablet. The program does not require talking to a live person, although non-clinical coaches are available to guide you throughout the process. The focus is skill-building that helps you manage feelings related to anxiety, depression, and other conditions that present some interference in your day to day functioning.

What is psychiatry?

Psychiatry involves medication prescription and management for the treatment of mental health conditions. It involves speaking to your doctor or a psychiatric provider about your symptoms to determine the type of medication that will help most. It can take a little time to find the medication that works best for you. Medications can help manage overwhelming emotions or symptoms that therapy alone may not be able to address. Medication is not indicated for all mental health conditions, as talk therapy can be enough for some people.

Does psychiatry include talk therapy?

A psychiatric provider may recommend therapy in conjunction with medication. Research shows that outcomes are significantly improved for individuals who combine talk therapy and/or computer-based treatment with medication. These interventions work together to improve the efficacy of medication and can help make long-lasting improvements that lead to remission or effective symptom management.

How do I know which care pathway is right for me?

We encourage you to speak with your doctor to figure out which option is best for you.

How does Quartet use my personal information?

Quartet uses your health insurance information, address, and any information shared in your referral to find the best possible match for a mental health provider.

We use your contact information to send you updates to the matching process and share it with your mental health provider so that they can reach out to schedule an appointment.  We may also send you additional updates and information related to Quartet services, as described in our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.

Why does Quartet ask for my DOB on the phone?

To keep your health information safe, Quartet needs to verify your identity before speaking to you about health-related information over the phone. If you give us verbal or written consent to speak to a relative or caregiver about your personal health information, we can coordinate with them also.

How does Quartet protect and store my personal information?
